Information
FOOD AND DRINK
Nothing by mouth after midnight including gum, mints, or candy. Special instructions will be given by the pre-admissions staff the day before surgery.
ALCOHOL
Do not drink alcohol for at least 12 hours before your arrival.
SMOKING
No smoking after midnight the night before your surgery.
VALUABLES
Please leave valuables at home. Please remove all jewelry (including body jewelry)
NOTIFY THE CENTER & YOUR SURGEON IF:
You have an elevated temperature, cough, cold, vomiting, diarrhea, or you suspect you may be pregnant.
MEDICATIONS
Please bring an updated medication list.
WHAT TO BRING
Insurance cards, photo ID, Medicare or Medical Assistance Information, numbers and addresses.
DRIVER/ESCORT
You must plan to have someone drive you home. Do NOT plan to use taxis or other public transportation. A friend, relative, or dedicated caregiver MUST stay with you for 24 hours.
CHILDREN/MINORS
A legal guardian must be in the center AT ALL TIMES for children and dependent adults. To ensure appropriate attention and privacy is given to all patients, children under the age of 12 are not permitted in the patient care areas. This includes family members and siblings.
INPERPRETER
If the patient cannot read, speak English, or use sign language, an interpreter is required. If you need assistance arranging for an interpreter, please contact the Pre-Admissions Department at 251.410.2250 (option #2) as soon as possible.
CHECK-IN
When you arrive at the center, we ask that you check in at the registration desk to verify personal, driver, and insurance information.
FOLLOWING ADMISSION
After checking in at our surgery center, a nurse will call you to the pre-operative area where you will sign consent and get prepared for surgery. You will stay in the pre-operative area until it is time for your surgery. An anesthesiologist will discuss your anesthesia with you and answer any questions.
